Khiri Travel establishes JV in Sri Lanka

SRI Lanka is the latest target on Khiri Travel’s radar, with the Bangkok-based DMC launching a new company there in collaboration with local counterpart Luxe Asia.

Khiri Travel Sri Lanka is scheduled to open its doors on November 1 as part of the Galle Face Management Group, which also owns Luxe Asia.

The new company will handle both tours in Sri Lanka as well as the Maldives, making beach extensions possible for tourists.

Willem Niemeijer, CEO of Khiri Travel Group, elaborated: “A fantastic new selection of signature Sri Lanka experiences will feature the diversity and richness of Sri Lanka’s wonderful landscapes, ancient temples, colonial heritage buildings, nature safaris, and culinary discoveries. Sri Lanka has amazing variety for such a relatively small country.”

Niemeijer said Khiri Travel Sri Lanka guests can expect trips to tea plantations, wildlife-viewing, trips on remote lakes and rivers, boutique hotels, and encounters with different groups in this ethnically diverse country.

Luxe Asia managing director, Chaminda Dias, will offer guidance to Khiri Travel Sri Lanka, while Ruben Derksen, former general manager of Khiri Travel Laos, has been appointed general manager.

The Sri Lanka office is the latest in Khiri’s expansion across the region, having opened Khiri Travel Indonesia in March.
