Taipei urges repeat Singapore travellers to explore the city in-depth

THE Taipei city government is working with CTC Travel in Singapore to map out city cycling trails in the hope that repeat visitors would discover more authentic sides of the Taiwanese capital by bus/bicycle, metro or walking (BMW).

CTC Travel’s travel manager for marketing and public relations, Kelly Toh, said: “Many travellers think they have to go beyond Taipei and into the outskirts of Taiwan to experience the peaceful nature but our cycling trails will show them the hidden parts in Taipei.”

Speaking at this year’s NATAS Travel Fair, Chiu-Huo Shieh, senior executive officer, department of information and tourism, Taipei, added: “Last year, we received more than 310,000 Singaporeans in Taiwan and we are looking to court repeat travellers to explore hidden parts of our city with BMW.”

“Treasure-hunting destinations” include the popular Ximending area, and Maokong, a small hill located in Taipei’s Wenshan District, famous for tea and city views.

Shieh said: “The whole experience of touring by bicycle is very different because you get to enjoy our charismatic Taipei’s diversity and glamour that you may miss if you are in a car.

“You can feel Taipei in a more up-close and personal way because you can get in touch with the locals too.”

The campaign highlights Taipei’s tourist-friendly infrastructure including its 12 metro lines, 3,502 public buses, and over 164 YouBike green public rental spots which will be ready by the end of 2014.
