Thailand will be imposing a 300 baht (US$9) tourist fee from April, which will go towards developing tourist attractions, upgrading infrastructure, and covering accident insurance for foreigners, Reuters reported.
“Part of the fee will be used to take care of tourists,” Tourism Authority of Thailand governor Yuthasak Supasorn told the outlet. “We’ve encountered times when insurance didn’t have coverage for tourists… and it became our burden to take care of them.”

A government spokesman said that the new fee will be added to the price of airline tickets and is part of the government’s sustainable tourism plans.
He added that the country expects between five and 15 million foreign arrivals this year, generating an estimated 800 billion baht in revenue.
