INDIAN budget hotel chain OYO Rooms is continuing with its expansion drive with more properties due to open across India in the next three weeks.

Inventory in Kolkata will grow to 1,500 rooms from the current 600, and to 2,500 rooms from the current 700 in Pune.

A further 2,000 rooms will come online in 20 other smaller cities. Patna in Bihar as well as Ranchi and Jamshedpur in Jharkhand are designated smaller inventory hotels, whereas cities like Bhubaneswar and Puri in Odisha will see five to eight hotels with larger inventories.

The company’s strategy also seeks to penetrate speciality towns such as Guwahati in Assam, Darjeeling in West Bengal and Ranikhet in Uttarakhand with an estimated 1,000 rooms within the next two months.

Kavikrut, head of expansion at OYO Rooms, said: “Kolkata and Pune are important markets for us. We anticipate a huge demand for high-quality accommodation among travellers to both cities as they are business and education hubs.

“By the end of this year, our strategy is to operate 50,000 rooms in 150 cities by entering every religion, leisure and industrial towns in India,” he added.
