Kunming sellers swing for golf enthusiasts

KUNMING’s scenic landscape and wide variety of world-class golf courses have made the destination increasingly popular with avid golfers from Asia, prompting some tourism sellers to cash in on this sporting segment.

Yunnan Panda International Tour Co, which has a division specialising in golf tours, has partnered with its sister company, Yunnan Eagle Eye Business Conference Service Co, to organise pre- and post-meeting golf games for MICE delegates.

The agency’s representative, June Liu, said there were at least seven courses in the city, some only 30 minutes away by car from the city centre.

She said: “Our biggest overseas markets are Singapore and Hong Kong, and many of these clients are businessmen. We will tap into the Malaysian market soon.”

Grand Park Hotel Kunming, which is close to three popular courses, has just started to offer guests free golf planning services, which include course booking and transfer arrangement, according to general manager Benny Chung.

Complimentary snack packs with fruit, sandwich and a drink are also given to guests before they leave for their game.

Chung said that the service is unique to the hotel, and will help build loyalty from golfers and encourage repeat bookings.
