Korean Air has finalised a US$44.8 billion agreement to acquire 103 Boeing aircraft and 21 spare engines from GE Aerospace and CFM International along with a 15-year engine maintenance contract.
The signing ceremony between Korean Air and Boeing was held on September 15, with Korean Air and Hanjin Group’s chairman and CEO Walter Cho, Boeing Commercial Airplanes’ president and CEO Stephanie Pope, CFM International’s president and CEO Gaël Méheust, and GE Aerospace, Korea’s president Youngje Kim in attendance.
The aircraft order comprises 20 Boeing 777-9s, 25 Boeing 787-10s, 50 Boeing 737-10s, and eight Boeing 777-8F freighters.
This investment secures a predictable long-term fleet introduction schedule to support capacity growth following the Asiana Airlines integration. The transition to next-generation models will also improve overall fleet fuel efficiency and support the airline’s carbon reduction goals.
