London’s Big Ben to stand silent until 2021

At noon on Monday, London’s iconic Big Ben made its final chime until the tower’s scheduled restoration work completes in 2021, according to the website.

Tours of the icon have been ceased since the £29 million (US$37.3 million) restoration project got underway early this year. The last time significant work was carried out on the tower was in 1983-85.

A notice on the website stated that there will be clock mechanics on hand to ensure that the Big Ben can still bong for important national events such as New Year’s Eve and Remembrance Sunday.
