Knai Bang Chatt to fund mangrove planting through 2026 guest bookings

Knai Bang Chatt by Kep West has launched The Regenerative Stay, a year-long programme that connects guest stays with coastal restoration efforts in Kep, Cambodia.

Under the initiative, all bookings made for 2026 will fund the planting of 10 mangrove seedlings per stay. The programme is delivered in partnership with Marine Conservation Cambodia and local mangrove community members, with planting activities focused on the Kep coastline.

The Kep resort will support coastal mangrove restoration for every stay booked in 2026

The resort states that each mangrove tree can offset around 308kg of CO₂ over an estimated 25-year growth period. Based on this calculation, ten trees would offset more than 7.7 tonnes of CO₂ over their lifetime. The planting is intended to contribute to long-term ecosystem health rather than short-term carbon accounting.

Mangrove forests play a role in protecting coastlines from erosion, supporting marine biodiversity and strengthening resilience for coastal communities. Through its partnership with Marine Conservation Cambodia, the resort says the programme supports established restoration work already underway in the region.

The Regenerative Stay builds on the resort’s existing environmental and community initiatives, positioning guest accommodation as a mechanism for contributing to local conservation activity. Participation in the programme is automatic for guests booking stays during the 2026 calendar year, with no additional action required.

The resort stated the initiative is designed to connect tourism activity with local environmental priorities in Kep, where mangrove loss has affected coastal stability and marine habitats.

“Regeneration only works when people are invited to be part of it,” said Jef Moons, founder of Knai Bang Chatt by Kep West. “With The Regenerative Stay, each booking becomes a tangible contribution to coastal renewal. It’s a way for guests to enjoy Kep while also supporting the ecosystems that make Kep so special.”
