SINGAPORE-based hotel brand, Parkroyal Hotels and Resorts, underlined firm intentions to expand in Vietnam through its return with Parkroyal Saigon. After a US$1 million refurbishment, the 193-room property in Tan Binh District will allow Parkroyal to catch the upswing in leisure tourism and corporate travel in Vietnam.
The group recognised the potential of Vietnam as a tourism destination and anticipated the country’s growth more than 10 years ago when it built Parkroyal Saigon. The group has since invested in Sofitel Plaza Saigon and Sofitel Plaza Hanoi as owners.
Parkroyal Hotels and Resorts executive director, Ms Wee Wei Ling, said: “The rebranding of Parkroyal Saigon and our return to the Vietnamese hospitality scene sets in motion our plans to widen our reach in the region in terms of acquisitions, building new properties and new management contracts.
“Hanoi is a major market for us too. Our investment in Sofitel Plaza Hanoi is doing very well. There are plans for a Parkroyal in Hanoi eventually, but we are now more focused on other growth markets where we do not have a presence yet.”
Parkroyal’s growth strategy is to secure a city hotel in the destination, followed by a resort, while keeping a keen eye on other cities with growth potential. Ms Wee said: “Danang, considered Vietnam’s third economic zone and the fourth largest city, is definitely a market that draws business travellers. Dalat is different. It is a leisure destination, with its highlands, temperate climate and beautiful sights.”
At an average of 33m2 per room, Parkroyal Saigon offers very spacious rooms by Ho Chi Minh City’s standards. Other facilities include a 300-seat ballroom, function rooms and a restaurant that is open 24/7. The hotel is only five minutes by car from the airport and 20 minutes from the city centre. Mr Lionel Moinard will be its general manager. He was previously general manager of Novotel Garden Plaza Saigon. – Karen Yue
